A Study on the Relationship Between Family Functioning and Female Adolescents¢¥ Mental Health


Abstract
The Purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between family adaptability, family cohesion and family satisfaction and female adolescents¢¥ mental health status. The subjects of this study were 210 female adolescents of two senior high school in Kwang Ju.
The data were collected through questionnaires from May. 28 to June. 5, 1992. The results were as follows.
1. A significant difference was noted between family adaptability and student¢¥s religion (p < .05), mother¢¥s religion (p < .05) and education level of mother (p < .05).
2. A significant difference was noted between family cohesion and mother¢¥s religion (p <.01).
3. A significant difference was noted between family satisfaction and father¢¥s religion (p < .01), mother¢¥s religion (p < .05) and economic status (p < .05).
4. The first hypothesis that "there is a relationship between family adaptability and female adolescents¢¥ mental health" was supported (p < .05).
5. The second hypothesis that "there is a relationship between family cohension and female adolescents¢¥ mental. health." was supported (p <.01).
6. The third hypotheis that "there is a relationship between family satisfaction and female adolescents¢¥ mental health" was accepted (p < .01).
